Science & Technology
Our information sheet coming soon!
Our well supported group meets at 2pm on the 3rd Friday of the month in The Southgate Room, above the Warkworth Hotel.
We grew out of the popular Science and Climate group and the scope has been widened to include other applied technologies. Our nearly 70 members are from all walks of life and include a number of highly qualified specialists in a wide variety of scientific and technical/engineering fields. Our excellent speakers are sourced from within our membership and where possible from external agencies. We wish to develop further our active member participation in topics of interest.
Examples of presentations in 2024 included:
The Waste to Power Myth (the realities of trying to burn waste for energy)
The Worst Places to Live in NZ (natural hazards)
Causes and mechanisms of Tsunami and Liquefaction
Construction of Clyde Power Station in Central Otago
The Era of AI (its development, applications and how we may all use it)
The Industrial Revolution, its causes and its effects on society
The IT control systems used in the operation of the new motorway connection to Warkworth
Our 2025 programme topics will range across climate mitigation measures, celestial research, controversial major infrastructure developments and smart use of technology in our rural industries.
New members are welcome.

We are always on the lookout for how we can explore topics of interest to the group and can support members in developing their own research and presentations. Do tell us if you have a particular interest or concern that we can explore together. Remember our wide range of topic areas can span across IT, medicine, manufacturing, science, astronomy, agriculture, farming, climate change, etc etc.
We are kicking off 2025 with a paper by one of our expert members on Carbon Dioxide Sequestration, a topic directly connected to mitigating climate change.
We will be following up with a paper on the positive impact rapid development of solar energy.
